National Trust site Calke Abbey offers wheelchair accessible vehicle

Calke Abbey, a National Trust site in Derbyshire, recently purchased a wheelchair accessible vehicle to transport people with reduced mobility.

The Club Car Villager 6 was supplied by Bradshaw Electric Vehicles, who are not only the UK’s largest manufacturer of industrial electric vehicles but also offer bespoke design and manufacture for particular requirements.

Calke Abbey required a 6 seater vehicle, with the capability of carrying a wheelchair and disabled passenger.  Bradshaw converted the Villager 6 to enable easy access for someone in a wheelchair, extending the platform to transport wheelchair occupant with seated attendant behind.  The vehicle was also fitted with safety glass front screen and wiper in place of a standard acrylic screen, rear lowered step to aid access for rear facing passengers and drop down full width rear safety bar.

The Club Car Villager 6 was pre-set to a maximum speed of 15mph, ensuring safety in the busy environment.

Calke Abbey is an un-stately home and country estate, telling the story of the dramatic decline of a country house estate.  Portraying a period in the 20th century, the house and stables are little restored.  The National Trust provides visitors with a relaxing, yet interesting visit, and with the new vehicle now on site, even more visitors can enjoy it.  The vehicle service operates between the car park and house/gardens.
