Who is vehicle training for and why?
The aim of the vehicle training course is to provide operators with the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure safe use and care of any Bradshaw or related product.
The vehicle training is tailored for the specific type of vehicle to be used, covers all aspects of its use, and is delivered with the emphasis on health & safety and operational matters.
The HSE state that under the provision and use of work equipment regulations (PUWER) 1998 under regulation 9 – Training: “Every employer should ensure that all persons who use work equipment have received adequate training for purposes of health and safety, including training in the methods which may be adopted when using the work equipment, any risks which such use may entail and precautions to be taken.”
The course will cover:

Health and safety responsibilities and legislation.

Battery and charger explanation.

Pre-drive vehicle checks.
-
Vehicle controls, equipment and drive characteristics.

Operating the vehicle and performing manoeuvres.

Identifying and managing hazards.

Hitching/unhitching trailers.
-
Towing and performing manoeuvres in the operator’s work environment for final assessment.
How long will the course take
The vehicle training can usually be successfully achieved within one working day. This will depend on each operator’s experience and aptitude.
Experienced
As a general guide, if the operators have a full drivers licence and/or experience on powered plant vehicles, up to three people, can be successfully trained on the same day if the assessment criteria is met.
Novices
If the operators have never driven or used any vehicle of any description, more training time will be required and usually no more than three people can be trained in half a day. If operators do not reach the required standard in one session, additional training will be required at further cost.
Qualifications
All operators must be present throughout their course to be eligible for assessment.
On successful completion of the course, the operator will receive a ‘Safe Use and Care of Bradshaw Vehicle’ certificate, which is valid for two years.
For best practice Bradshaw fully recommend the operator to attend the operator refresher course every two years.
Other information:
Refreshment and lunch breaks will be taken at an agreed time for the group.
