Going Underground

Bradshaw are accustomed to working with the transport sector – which until now had kept them above ground.bradshaw special build in london tunnel

In this recent contract Bradshaw was tasked with supplying a vehicle that could work within the extensive constraints of underground tunnels in London.

The vehicle needed to be capable of towing 800kgs, only 450mm wide, be shorter overall than previous supplied vehicles, with greater maneuverability and improved driver comfort – a tall order but as ever Bradshaw rose to the challenge.

The key criteria and starting point was the width of the vehicle, which led the design team at Bradshaw to use the T80 tow tractor as the base vehicle. From here they worked to ensure that drive axles, steering axles and components would function effectively and together with the AC control systems were able to meet the stringent health and safety criteria as well as maintaining performance and braking requirements.

Bradshaw worked in partnership with their customer, reviewing the design a long the way, ensuring it met the specification – a prototype was produced within 8 weeks of the order and all 9 final vehicles being delivered within 14 weeks of order.

On site driver training was given by our registered trainer and certificates awarded.
